NIPC Issues Report of Investment Announcements, Q1–Q3 2018

NIPC Reception

NIPC has released its Report of Investment Announcements for the first three quarters of 2018 (January to September), tracking investment commitments across sectors, investor countries of origin, and destination states.

Between January and September 2018, investment announcements totalling US$73.08 billion were tracked across 65 projects in 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Mining and quarrying remained the dominant sector by value, driven by large-scale projects announced earlier in the year, while oil and gas, manufacturing, and agriculture also featured prominently in the quarterly breakdown.

By investor country of origin, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the largest single source of announced investment for the Q1–Q3 period, accounting for 25% by value — a significant increase from prior periods — reflecting major infrastructure and real estate commitments. Nigeria accounted for 14%, the United Kingdom 13%, and the United States 10%. Kogi State continued to attract the highest share of announced investment owing to the concentration of mining projects.

The Report is based on investment announcements carried in NIPC's Intelligence Newsletters from January to September 2018. As with previous editions, NIPC did not independently verify the authenticity of the announcements, and the Report may not capture all investment activity in Nigeria during the period. The Commission will publish its full-year 2018 Report in early 2019.
