Team Nigeria placed third in the finals of the Unilever Future Leaders League, held in London on 13 April 2019 — marking the first occasion that a Nigerian team has reached the global finals of the competition.
Twenty-seven countries participated in the finals at the Hilton Towers, London. Team Nigeria's representatives were Ezeoguine Chuka Dean, Esieboma Jeremiah, and Onnoha Oluebube from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO). The competition began with Unilever Nigeria's Idea Trophy, an open national contest for undergraduate students requiring participants to develop an advertisement concept around the "Dirt is Good" brand. The top Nigerian teams were selected to compete alongside African representatives in a continental challenge, from which Team Nigeria and Team Kenya advanced to the global event as Africa's representatives.
At the final stage of the competition, teams were tasked with developing innovative approaches to communicating the Rexona brand. According to Unilever, "The Unilever Africa Idea Trophy is designed for second and third year university students with the express intent of combating youth unemployment on the continent by equipping young people with the skills required in the workplace." NIPC celebrates Team Nigeria's achievement as a demonstration of Nigerian youth talent in the global arena.
