On 26 January 2024, the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) hosted a meeting with Mrs Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment for Lagos State.
The dialogue, led by NIPC's Executive Secretary/CEO, Ms Aisha Rimi, centred on streamlining investment procedures and encouraging a welcoming environment for businesses in Nigeria. Ms Rimi highlighted the crucial role of the Commission's One-Stop Investment Centre (OSIC) model in saving investors valuable time and resources; through its centralised platform, OSIC simplifies the process of obtaining regulatory approvals, licences and permits, removing bureaucratic hurdles that can often deter investment.
Mrs Ambrose-Medebem commended NIPC's efforts and expressed her commitment to working collaboratively to further improve the investment climate in Lagos State, acknowledging the effectiveness of the OSIC model and expressing interest in implementing similar initiatives in Lagos.
The discussion also touched on the adaptation of investment incentives to cater to impactful businesses and the need to enhance support structures available to women in business. Both parties agreed on the importance of tailoring incentives to attract investments that align with Nigeria's broader development goals, such as promoting job creation, technological advancement and sustainable practices.
