Nigeria and the European Union reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their strategic economic partnership at the 10th Nigeria–EU Business Forum held on Thursday, 25 June 2026, at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, National Theatre, Lagos, under the theme, "Enhancing Sustainable Investment Together."
The Forum convened policymakers, investors, financial institutions, and business leaders to advance cooperation in key sectors, including renewable energy, digital infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, sustainable transport, and trade.
Speakers highlighted the growing importance of the Nigeria–EU partnership, which supports over €35 billion in annual trade, approximately €26 billion in European foreign direct investment, and more than 130,000 direct jobs in Nigeria. The EU also remains Nigeria's largest source of foreign direct investment and accounts for 31% of the country's foreign trade.
Representing the Executive Secretary/CEO of NIPC, Mr. Abayomi Salami, Director of Policy Advocacy, participated in a panel discussion on Regulatory and Policy Reforms as Catalysts for Sustainable Investment. He emphasised that sustainable investment depends on a predictable, transparent, and competitive business environment, noting that NIPC is championing proactive regulatory and policy reforms by addressing and preventing investment barriers.
He further stated that the Federal Government's ongoing economic reforms are enhancing macroeconomic stability, strengthening investor confidence, and positioning Nigeria as a preferred destination for sustainable and productive investment.
