Gombe State (the Jewel of the Savannah) is a strategic commercial and agricultural hub connecting North-East Nigeria to the rest of the country. Its fertile land, cotton belt, and gum Arabic trees make it prime for textile and confectionery investments, while solid mineral deposits open the door for a burgeoning mining sector.
Gombe occupies a strategic commercial position that its population size alone would not suggest. It is the point where roads from six North-East states converge, Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Yobe, and Plateau all funnel traffic through the state capital, making Gombe’s wholesale and distribution markets the natural clearing house for a hinterland of roughly 20 million people. The cotton belt running through Gombe, Yamaltu-Deba, and Akko LGAs historically supplied textile mills in Kaduna and Kano, and the cooperative farming structures that supported that supply chain still exist, waiting for a revival of processing investment. Gum Arabic from Gombe’s acacia trees is a globally traded commodity with growing applications in food and beverage manufacturing (Coca-Cola and Nestlé both use it as a stabiliser), yet most of Gombe’s output is still sold raw at the farmgate.
Why Invest in Gombe
GOSIPA has made agribusiness and solid minerals its twin investment priorities and has invested in road connectivity that has materially reduced transit times to production zones. The state’s limestone belt, confirmed by NGSA surveys, holds potential for cement production to serve the North-East market, which currently imports most of its cement from plants in southern and western Nigeria at significant freight cost.
