Lagos is Africa’s economic powerhouse, a megacity of 22 million people, Nigeria’s GDP engine, and the continent’s foremost financial, tech, and entertainment hub. Home to Nollywood, Afrobeats, fintech unicorns, and Africa’s busiest port, Lagos offers unrivalled consumer market access, startup ecosystems, and infrastructure for any sector imaginable. Lagos is simply where Africa does business.

Lagos contributes approximately a third of Nigeria’s GDP, a single metropolitan economy that, were it independent, would rank comfortably in the top ten largest in sub-Saharan Africa. Its Apapa and Tin Can Island ports handle over 70% of Nigeria’s containerised cargo, its stock exchange accounts for the majority of Africa’s equity market capitalisation outside South Africa, and its four financial free trade zones host the African headquarters of virtually every major multinational bank, insurance company, and asset manager active on the continent. The Lekki Free Trade Zone has attracted over 100 manufacturers in electronics assembly, packaging, chemicals, and consumer goods. The Lekki Deep-Sea Port, commissioned in 2023, has added significant export capacity. Eko Atlantic City (10 km² reclaimed from the Atlantic Ocean) is the continent’s most ambitious smart-city development.

Why Invest in Lagos

Lagos is the only Nigerian state that consistently enforces property rights, commercial contracts, and planning regulations at standards recognisable to international investors. The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) provides SME co-investment and grant funding, while the state’s liaison offices in London and New York serve as first points of contact for overseas investors. For any sector (fintech, manufacturing, entertainment, logistics, real estate), the Nigerian market ultimately runs through Lagos.
