NIPC hosted a session at Nigeria Finance Week 2021 on 3 March 2021 to showcase investment opportunities across states in the country. The session brought together investment promotion agencies and representatives from several states to make the case directly to investors for opportunities across Nigeria.
Representing Lagos, Special Adviser on SDGs and Investments, Solape Hammond, described Lagos as the nation's industrial hub, hosting more than 70% of businesses and receiving an annual average of over 80% of foreign direct investment inflows into the country. She highlighted Lagos as the powerhouse of digital innovation and noted the State's position as the seventh fastest-growing city globally.
The MD/CEO of the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ASIPPA), Jide Ikeako, described Anambra as the gateway to the South-East, accounting for about 35% of all trade volume in the country despite its relatively smaller land area. 'Anambra is a key logistics hub with its airport and seaport; it is an oil and gas state with over 4 trillion cubic feet of gas,' he said.
Niger State's Head of Investment Promotion Agency, Hamza Sarki Bello, noted that Niger leads in rice and melon production and is amongst the country's largest producers of cassava and yam. Edo State's Kelvin Uwaibi described Edo as the heartbeat of Nigeria, a logistics hub and the country's top oil palm producer. Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency Head, Umma Yusuf Aboki, cited the World Bank's ranking of Kaduna as the easiest State in the Federation to do business, with extensive gold deposits, arable land, and dominance in five industrial crops: maize, tomatoes, ginger, sorghum, and soybeans.
Enugu State Investment Development Authority (ESIDA) CEO Chibuzor Okafor highlighted Enugu's competitive position in coal, oil and gas, real estate, two free trade zones, and its international airport serving the South-East and South-South regions. The session demonstrated the breadth of investment opportunity across Nigeria beyond its traditional investment centres.
