The Kano State Government has signed a public-private partnership agreement with Capegate Investment Limited on municipal solid waste management, waste-to-electricity conversion, organic and inorganic fertiliser production, and air quality improvement. The agreement represents a significant investment in circular economy infrastructure for Kano State.
Capegate Investment's President/CEO, Alhaji Bashir Namadina Katukan Jega, stated that the company will partner with foreign and local players including Dynamic Biogas, Horus Energia, and Digitronic Auto Gas (all from Poland), Shanghai BDER Environmental Protection Group Co. Ltd (China), and two local firms — Phoenix Associates Ltd and One17 Capital Limited. The project will deploy 30 trucks, 32 compactors, 36 mini-trucks, and other equipment for solid waste collection across Kano State, alongside two central sewers to collect liquid and industrial waste for conversion into electricity to be fed into the Kano State grid.
The venture is projected to create jobs for at least 4,300 young people involved in waste management in Kano State, contributing to both environmental sustainability and economic inclusion goals.
