NIPC's Executive Secretary/CEO, Ms Yewande Sadiku, has described the impact of Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre and Specialist Hospital (MRCC&SH) in Lagos as extending well beyond the financial value of the investment. Visiting the facility, she called for increased support from Federal, State and Local governments to investments of this nature.
"For me, it is the improvement in the quality of life of the Nigerians who will be treated in this facility," she said. "It is the value of receiving the best quality care, the type that you can get anywhere in the world, but close to home, family and familiar comforts — which experts tell us should greatly aid healing."
Dr Modupe Elebute-Odunsi, CEO and Co-Founder of MRCC and a Nigerian diaspora returnee, stated that the facility had received around 500 patients within its first seven months of operation — patients who would not ordinarily have been able to access comprehensive diagnostics and treatment for cancer. The centre is a one-stop facility for the comprehensive treatment of cancer and specialist conditions, including an imaging centre with CT, mammogram and X-Ray machines, an 8-bed chemotherapy suite, a radiotherapy centre, and a pharmacy.
