Strengthening Nigeria's Cocoa Industry: NIPC's Strategic Role 01

The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) has been strategically positioned in Nigeria's cocoa transformation journey.

Following approval from the Hon Minister of Trade and Investment, NIPC has been appointed as a member of the Technical Implementation Committee for the 10-Year National Cocoa Plan (2023-2032), a landmark initiative approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in May 2023.

The plan aims to boost farm productivity from 0.35 mt/ha to 0.75 mt/ha, increase national cocoa output to 500,000 mt of high-quality cocoa beans, and ensure a private-sector-led and structured cocoa trade that promotes traceability, certification and value addition.

Representing NIPC on this crucial committee is Mr Shettima Barma, Deputy Director, Department of Investment Promotion, following approval by NIPC's Executive Secretary/CEO, Ms Aisha Rimi.

On 13 March 2025, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Investment, Amb Nura Rimi, officially inaugurated the committee at the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.

NIPC is taking a leadership role as Co-Chair of the Finance and Investment Sub-Committee, ensuring sustainable funding and investment drive for Nigeria's cocoa industry. This represents a major step forward for the country's agriculture, trade and investment landscape, opening up export potential, enhancing global competitiveness and fostering economic growth.
